I’ve already written how to make Victorian picnic in your city. Now the fifth Victorian picnic in Krasnodar has finished, and I’d like to tell about my preparing to it. I mean not the organization, but only the process of making clothes and accessories.
This picnic was in October, but I started to prepare in May. I had to create two costumes: for me and for my boyfriend. Besides, I always pay my attention to accessories, which could be used during Victorian picnic. So this time my wish list included a handkerchief, a dress, a cylinder, a frock-coat, a vest, a drawers and a shawl. I had already made a chest for dishes, a corset cover, a reticule, an umbrella and a bonnet. Also I had bought one more basket, a fan, a walking cane and gloves.
First of all, I had made the handkerchief from white batiste and had knitted an ornament around it. It wasn’t interesting to put it into someone’s pocket, so I used this handkerchief as a napkin during the picnic. Then I had made the men’s cylinder, but it turned out to be small for my boyfriend. It was really sad, and I had to use his old cylinder.
As I’ve already said, I had created the corset cover, which I wore for the previous picnic. I also had a corset, which wasn’t made by me (actually I think, that I haven’t enough skills to sew corsets). To finish my underwear I had to make the drawers. It wasn’t difficult, so I used all of this during one of my photo shootings.
In my free time I was knitting wristbands and a collar for my dress. When I finished them in June, I started to make the vest. I wanted it to be authentic, that’s why I add two pockets and an embroidery. The last detail took a lot of time, so I had finished it in October. It was my first embroidery on clothes. I hope that the next one will be better.
In August I had made my dress. I had chosen the early Victoriana, which includes a crinoline. To create authentic dress I made a pattern thanks to historical book. When I finished the dress, I added there the collar and wristbands. The image was too modest, but I hadn’t enough time and energy to create a new one. I even didn’t want to add something to my old bonnet. Actually I was sure, that there would be many bright women’s dresses and two or three beautiful men’s costumes. That’s why I spent more time making my boyfriend’s image.
The last details were the frock-coat and the shawl. The shawl was finished instantly, but I can’t say so about the frock-coat. I hadn’t created this kind of clothes before, so I had made some mistakes. Finally this part of men’s costume was worse, that others. I hope that I will solve this problem later.
I haven’t mentioned about men’s shirt, which was made by my friend several years ago, pans, which were bought in a shop long time ago, a pocket watch, which was a gift, and shoes, which were used during concerts or balls. And here are our whole images for the fifth Victorian picnic!
